The work culture at Mohegan Sun and all Mohegan properties is vigilantly guided by the Spirit of Aquai. These four principles (Welcoming, Building Relationships, Mutual respect, and Cooperation) define who we are as an organization and have provided us with a very strong foundation since we opened our doors in 1996.

Mohegan is committed to a diverse workforce and creating an environment that is inclusive and equitable for team members. In 2024 Mohegan Sun was named in America's Greatest Workplaces for Diversity with a 5-star rating and in 2020, Mohegan Sun was ranked in the Top 10 by Fortune Magazine in its “100 Best Workplaces for Diversity.” DE&I is more important than ever for our business as we work to ensure Team Members of all backgrounds feel valued for who they are and what they bring to the organization.

Employment Inclusion Programs

Mohegan Sun has emerged as an industry leader by creating custom disability inclusion programs serving a large population of people. There are three core programs that provide access and training to many of the 80 Mohegan Sun departments:

The Viability program

An embedded agency in our employee center at Eagleview that receives referrals from the Connecticut Bureau of Rehabilitative Services (BRS) with the goal of achieving employment. The Viability program has achieved a placement rate of nearly 80 percent.

The Mohegan Sun Student Vocational Inclusion Program (MSSVIP)

Mohegan Sun has partnered with many of the local transitional academies, where 18-21 year-old students spend a traditional school year calendar and rotate to our property periodically. Students get exposure to a wide range of our services, including Culinary, Environmental Services, Grounds Keeping, Arena, and Retail outlets. Graduating students receive assistance when transitioning to the workforce.

Project Search

Norwich School District, Norwich Transition Academy, Montville High School, Waterford High School and Ledyard High School, Mitchell College, L.E.A.R.N., Southeastern Employment, The ARC New London, United Cerebral Palsy (UCP), Vista Vocational, Sound Community Services.

The average placement rate for these kinds of programs hovers around 50% and the rate for BRS (Bureau of Rehab Services State of CT.) is about 40%. Here at Mohegan Sun currently we are nearly 80% placement.

Mohegan Sun has supported hundreds of schools, non-profits, and parks & recreation organizations throughout the communities where Mohegan operates, providing donations, sponsorships, and support for initiatives.

Team member wellness programs & self-care education

Mohegan enjoys one of the highest retention rates in the hospitality industry, a testament to the support of and appreciation for its more than 8,000 Team Members worldwide. Mohegan’s workplace culture and environment is second to none. By embedding the Spirt of Aquai into our Team Member culture, we encourage mutual respect and value for each other while building a bridge from Mohegan history to Mohegan hospitality – something we call “The Mohegan Way.” In 2022, Mohegan was named to Forbes Best-in-State Employers list and recognized in Newsweek’s Top 100 U.S. Most Loved Workplaces® conducted in collaboration with the Best Practice Institute (BPI). This year, Mohegan ranked 85 among the 2023 Global Top 100 Most Loved Workplaces® recognized for team member sentiment and satisfaction.

On-Site Pharmacy: Team Members whether enrolled in our health insurance coverage or not can utilize our on-site pharmacy to fill their prescriptions with ease. Our pharmacy provides all the essential over-the-counter needs and quick access to start filling or refilling prescriptions. Their team also provides immunizations, like flu shots, in private, confidential settings for all.
On-Site Fitness Center: A state-of-the-art fitness center is located in our employee center for Team Members and their dependents to utilize at a low cost weekly premium. They have access to equipment such as treadmills, ellipticals, free weights, and other various fitness resources. There is space for group exercises for friends and coworkers to meet their health goals together.
Yale New Haven Health Partnership: Mohegan Sun has partnered with Yale New Haven Health System in order to provide access to affordable and immediate care. Through this partnership, Team Members enrolled in the health insurance plan have reduced costs when seeking care from a Yale facility and/or provider. But you don’t have to be enrolled in the health insurance to take advantage of Yale’s resources. Yale Coordinators provide a concierge service to all Team Members with connecting them to providers, reviewing medical bills, enrolling in MyChart, and other unique services.
Livingwell CARES Program: Through our partnership with Yale New Haven Health, their team provide access to the Livingwell CARES Program. All Team Members and their family members can meet with a specially trained, professional nurse care coordinator and health coach to answer questions and support personal health goals related to chronic conditions and/or lifestyle changes. This is a free and confidential service providing resources whether someone wants to work stress management tools or is open to trying new ways to manage their chronic conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes.
Be Well Committee: Mohegan Sun and Mohegan Tribe are committed to providing health and wellness services to all! An internal Be Well Committee provides collaboration between multiple Mohegan properties and our health and wellness partners. The committee provides Team Members with resources and activities like on-site access to blood pressure checks, hydration challenges, Day of Walking, sun prevention and care, and much more while focusing on four pillars: Fitness, Prevention, Financial Wellness, and Nutrition.
Voluntary Benefit Elections: Team Members have the opportunity to elect additional benefits based on their personal needs. Benefits such as short-term disability, critical illness, hospitalization care, and much more allow Team Members the change to prepare for the unexpected to supplement their income if they find themselves out of work for medical reasons. Team Members may have the option to elect coverages for their spouse. And you can’t forget about your furry companions; pet insurance options are available too!
